RECLAMATION
The Change That Changes
In the hot of never-ending summer,
A white bird steals a seed
To grow a tree, to create roots elsewhere,
So that a stone cannot stop the roots from feeding the tree
So that the leaves can hear what the roots ask
A tree grows in the foreign land.
A tree grows by the same hand
A tree sits far from its origins.
A tree identical, South American
The bark grows thicker to deal with the winter.
The leaves get lighter upon arrival,
Genetically identical,
Adapting for survival.
